Many people have picked up on the meme, and after examining the record are beginning to agree, McCain's using the POW bit as a crutch. Maureen Dowd made it the subject of this week's Sunday Column. Lt. General Robert G. Gard, Jr. (USA - Ret), even calls McCain's use of his time as a POW "cheapening." I believe folks this meme now has legs and if the McCain campaign doesn't change, this may be the way McCain gets swift-boated.
