I have been impressed with the urgency of doing. Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Being willing is not enough; we must do.

Gyllenhaal, Biel set to begin filming in April

Yesterday I reported on the Press Release about South Carolina "scoring" another big movie Production starring sexy young actors Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Biel.

Today The State has more indepth coverage on the Movie, including why the production chose SC:

Both states had suitable statehouses and good incentives. But the producers wanted to start as soon as possible and didn’t want to wait on Connecticut to warm up, he said.

The State then takes a shot at the current Commerce Department policies towards film:

South Carolina’s rebates were set in July after the state Department of Commerce
recommended changes to a policy created by the General Assembly.
Before the change, film companies received a 20 percent rebate for wages paid to all
workers. However, the department said those rebates weren’t earning enough return on the investment and incentives awarded for employing South Carolinians.
Last week, House Speaker Bobby Harrell, R-Charleston, announced a plan to increase film incentives so that companies would earn a 30 percent rebate for employing South Carolinians and a 20 percent rebate on others’ salaries.

My friend Dogwooddell has an interesting perspective that he's keeping to himself but offers guarded details of the impending 'war' between the Legislature and Department of Commerce, the film incentive package being the first in what promises to be a series of battles. (See here and here for the film incentives and here for other info).
