I'm a huge fan of icons, in the Christian sense, and have quite a few icons that span in style from the traditional Byzantine, to the modern. I've heard of some modern iconographers including non-traditional figures in icons including many recent historical personalities some for more obvious reasons than others (none the less), including:
Martin Luther King Jr,
Hans Van Balthasaar
And now, but not from the traditional method of iconography one who is alive and among us - which is especially unusual as a subject of iconography....
