Leonardo"s Notebook by Mattheus Mei

I have been impressed with the urgency of doing. Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Being willing is not enough; we must do.

Scientists are Pissed!

This week as the nations of the world hash out what to do about the impending dangers of Global Warming Scientists are getting pissed at how slow governments are to take action according to the AP. In an unprecedented move more than 200 climate scientists from over 25 countries came together to sign a petition decrying the need for immediate action. According to the AP story

"In the past, many of these scientists have avoided calls for action, leaving that to environmental advocacy groups. That dispassionate stance was taken during the release this year of four separate reports by the Nobel Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
But no more.

"It's a grave crisis, and we need to do something real fast," said petition signer Jeff Severinghaus, a geosciences professor at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla, Calif. "I think the stakes are way way too high to be playing around."

This comes on the heels of the "Bali Communique" signed by over 150 global business leaders urging the nations of the world to take action. But as noted before, it's not just science and business that's concerned with protecting creation. Leaders of various World Religions have called for constraint and action too. It really makes you wonder why so many governments, especially that of America,* are failing to act.

*It should be noted that even though the Federal Government failing to act on the concerns with global warming, et al, that state governments have formed regional pacts and are going at it alone to reduce carbon output and many municipalities have signed up as well.
