I have been impressed with the urgency of doing. Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Being willing is not enough; we must do.

Russian Orthodox Church taking cues from Kremlin?

Well it looks like the "West" is being put on the spot by Russians all over this week. First it was Sec. of State Condi Rice and Sec. of Defense Gates being dismissed by President Vladamir Putin (who is set to become Premier, then to be anointed Czar sometime in the Spring) Now it appears that the Delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church who were in Italy for an ecumenical conference have left the table - not over proposed Missile Defense in former Satellite states - but proposed Religious Autonomy in Satellite states.

The Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople has made the Church an autocephelous entity - which has infuriated the Patriarch of Moscow who claims 'legitimate control' over the Estonian Church.

No one could figure out why the patriarchate was upset over the elevation (liberation) of the Estonian Church - especially since in the Spring Czar Putin I plans on assuming his position as Vice-Gerent, head of the Church and dissolving all the monasteries. The Russians are ambitious and state that unlike other Ecclesial communities who took 470 years, they can and WILL become atheistic in 10 years, gloating on their past experience with atheism.

Our Russian friends have their britches on too tight and take umbrage at the slightest provocation. I personally think it's just an extremely thin skin that goes with being Russian!

The whole "Third Rome" thing of theirs is at play here. They don't recognize the authority of the Ecumenical Patriarch anywhere outside his own church and I think they feel that the Estonian church is in their "orbit."

So yeah, Russians being, well, Russian.
