It's seems an awkward wording when one says "Happy" about a day that is, for so many, a day of remembrance for reasons so bittersweet.
On the one hand we celebrate the victories won that ensure our way of life and those with us who served our nation in those times of war. On the other though we acknowledge those who are not with us who's sacrifice to this country and for our cause of freedom paid the ultimate price, laying down their life for their fellow countrymen - and we join with their families and friends in recognizing that sacrifice and in their mixture of pride and sorrow for the triumph and yet still the tragedy.
So today we pause in remembrance, and share our affection for the men and women who serve, have served, with honor and distinction both living and dead. For that reason, because the hope and faith we have in this country that is made more tangible and real by their actions, we can say and do say -- Happy Veteran's Day.
