Bilgrimage adds an interesting perspective on the wound licking going on in certain Catholic circles whether they be clerical or ecclesiological (used loosely), and gently reminds our coreligionists on "the right" that they never asked these questions on our behalf, and if those particular questions are the most pressing and appropriate now. It's a powerful read and doesn't tout itself as a valedictory but perturbingly conciliatory.
