The AP is stepping back from threats of suit against bloggers who copy and paste from articles etc etc and has announced that they're going to meet with the Media Bloggers Association - the blogging world's only spokesgroup (so far) - to establish guidelines for bloggers on using AP material.
The AP was heavily criticised after they sent legal notice to the author/owner of the Drudge Retort, a parody of Matt Drudge's site the Drudge Report, for what they called improper use of their stories.
There was a flutter of criticism as small bloggers the world over began citing "fair use" under copy right law especially as it applies to the Internet because posting anything on the Internet is akin to posting millions of fliers in your town square and as such is interpreted not to be protected but used and shared.
