The only other Democratic President elected in the past 40 years besides Bill Clinton interviewed with the Wall Street Journal. Although President Carter is not endorsing anyone specifically, he had nothing but praise for Sen. Obama.
"He has an extraordinary oratory...I think that Obama will be almost automatically a healing factor in the animosity now that exists, that relates to our country and its government."
President Jimmy Carter on Sen. Obama
It's still up in the air if soon to be former candidate Edwards will endorse someone, Brad Warthen at the State linked to an interesting article at the Washington Post on who might benefit most from Edwards departure and with his support. I would surmise from the article that it looks slightly better for Obama than Clinton.
In other news though, President Carter led his alternative Baptist coalition convention in Georgia (New Baptist Covenant) trying to work on ecumenism between the various sects of the Baptist Super Denomination. Many assert, and Carter admits that his rallying cry is in response to the image presented of Baptist by the largest sect in the country - the Southern Baptist Convention. In 2000 Carter publically renounced his membership in the convention though he still attends the same church and teaches the same Sunday School in Plains, GA that he's always taught.
